When I started taking photos in the 70’s I had various instamatic and compact camera’s.It was 35mm rolls of film then and they were very expensive so I would have been very careful about what I shot.

I didn’t know anything about photography of course and had very little control over what the camera did when I hit the shutter button. If it was dull in the winter time or indoors I would choose ASA400 film, the equivalent of ISO400 in our digital cameras and for bright outdoors in Summer ASA100 or 200.But once the film was in I was committed to 24 or 36 exposures depending on the size of the roll.

Obviously I had control over composition so there was great excitement when the packet of prints arrived in the post from the processing lab.I think the anticipation of flicking through the bunch of photos for the first time gave me my passion for printing.

Anyway, getting back to equipment,I went to work in the MIddle East in the mid 80’s and because cameras were much cheaper there I bought a Fugi SLR and got a bit more serious about my photography. After a short time I sold that on and bought a Canon T70.

The Canon T70 was considered one of the most technologically advanced cameras at the time.It had dual metering modes and as it was powered by 2xAA batteries the film was loaded, moved on and rewound electronically.Programmes were set by a LCD screen on the top of the camera.
